Portugese pink rosemary
Potuguese Pink Rosemary is a perennial kitchen herb and an ornamental plant with vibrant pink flowers in abundance during winter. Grows well in hot, dry, sunny position with moist well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and prefers to stay fairly dry in winter. Prune after flowering to maintain a bushy, compact habit. Grows to a height of 1 - 1.5 metres and width of 1 - 2 metres.
Note: Edible flowers or foliage should be picked fresh from an area that has not been exposed to any gardening chemicals and washed before consumption.

- Dig a hole 60cm wide and 60cm deep. If the topsoil is usable, separate it from the sand as it can be re-used in the hole. When planting roses in an existing rose bed or where roses have been previously grown during the last 5 years, the soil must be replaced.
- Mix together a mixture that contains 2 parts topsoil, 2 parts compost, 1 part manure or buy a Soil Improver, Landscaping or Rose Soil mix from a Landscape supply place. About 100 litres per planting hole is recommended.
- A layer of manure can be placed at the bottom of the hole and then the hole filled with the above soil mix.
- Place one handful of slow-release fertilizer at 20cm depth from the top where the roots of the newly planted rose will be situated.
- Soak the soil thoroughly and lightly compact.
- Now plant the rose in this mix with the surface of the plant even with the surface of the prepared area, e.g., the graft union should be about 5 to 10 cm above soil level.
- Water every day for the first six months from October onwards, up to 10 litres per day during warm weather is recommended for strong deep root development.
- Plant roses 1m to 1.2m apart.
