Tangelo Minneola

The Tangelo Minneola is a delicious and aromatic citrus hybrid, known for its sweet-tart flavour and vibrant, deep orange skin. This medium to large-sized fruit has a slightly flattened, bell-like shape with a thin, easy-to-peel rind, making it perfect for fresh eating, juicing, and adding a zesty citrusy twist to salads and desserts. The Minneola’s juicy flesh combines the rich flavour of tangerines and the tangy notes of grapefruit, creating a unique and refreshing taste. The Minneola Tangelo tree is a vigorous grower, offering a generous harvest from mid to late winter, providing a steady supply of vitamin-rich fruit when other citrus is scarce. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it an excellent choice for home gardeners seeking a productive and low-maintenance citrus tree. Its compact growth habit makes it suitable for small gardens, patios, and even container growing, allowing you to enjoy fresh, homegrown tangelos straight from your garden.

As recommended by the Swiss Rose Garden Nursery.

  1. Dig a hole 60cm wide and 60cm deep. If the topsoil is usable, separate it from the sand as it can be re-used in the hole. When planting roses in an existing rose bed or where roses have been previously grown during the last 5 years, the soil must be replaced.
  2. Mix together a mixture that contains 2 parts topsoil, 2 parts compost, 1 part manure or buy a Soil Improver, Landscaping or Rose Soil mix from a Landscape supply place. About 100 litres per planting hole is recommended.
  3. A layer of manure can be placed at the bottom of the hole and then the hole filled with the above soil mix.
  4. Place one handful of slow-release fertilizer at 20cm depth from the top where the roots of the newly planted rose will be situated.
  5. Soak the soil thoroughly and lightly compact.
  6. Now plant the rose in this mix with the surface of the plant even with the surface of the prepared area, e.g., the graft union should be about 5 to 10 cm above soil level.
  7. Water every day for the first six months from October onwards, up to 10 litres per day during warm weather is recommended for strong deep root development.
  8. Plant roses 1m to 1.2m apart.

Enjoy the beautiful roses!
